Coronavirus Update 18/03/20

As the Coronavirus situation develops, we need to keep taking steps to reduce the risk of infection and slow the spread of the virus. Despite the uncertainty, God comforts us. The Apostle Paul assures us:

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:38-39

NO CHURCH GATHERING THIS SUNDAY
The Federal Government has banned non-essential gatherings of more than 100 people. In light of this, our Archbishop has decided that the Anglican Church in Sydney should suspend all public church gatherings until further notice. For us, this includes Sunday services, English Classes, Giggles, Kids Club and Guildford Youth. You can read the Archbishop’s statement here

ALTERNATIVES
Just because we can’t meet on Sunday or in large groups does not mean church stops. The author of Hebrews shows us what’s really happening when Christians gather – we’re part of the heavenly church that is always gathered together around God:

“You have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven.”

Hebrews 12:22-23

Even though our gatherings have stopped, the work of loving people and sharing the good news  about Jesus continues. As a staff team, we are thinking through how to make sure everyone is loved and encouraged during this difficult time. Please be praying for us, that we would be wise and creative. Other churches are experimenting with online services, and we may do the same.
